Samsung Galaxy S4 could hit 100m sales, analyst forecasts

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is on course to be the handset-maker?s biggest-selling phone ever, market intelligence suggests.

In a note to investors, Jeffries analyst Peter Misek, forecasts that Samsung?s next flagship smartphone will reach total of 100 million units sold. That?s some 40 per cent more than the S3, which the market-analysis company?s number-crunchers estimate will rack up 60 million lifetime sales before it heads off into the sunset.

Perhaps more interesting than the S4?s record-breaking feats, though, is Misek?s perception that its success could impact on its deadliest rival, as ?suppliers reallocate resources away from Apple? to fulfil orders from Samsung.

Assuming he?s correct, it raises the prospect of supply shortages of iPhones and iPads at a time when Apple will be under severe scrutiny in the wake of last month?s share-price drop and its failure to meet some finance wonks? iPhone sales targets.

Purportedly set to launch next month, the Galaxy S4 is expected to feature a larger 4.99-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, a 13-megapixel camera, an eight-core processor and wireless charging.

Samsung is also thought likely to continue to add supposedly nature-inspired, S3-style user interface tweaks to the Android operating system that powers the phone. These could include the option to pause video and scroll through the phone?s screen using eye movements alone.
