Find Out What You Need to Know to Succeed | Real Estate Investing

If you want to know what to learn to be a real estate investor read this article.

What do you need to know to become a successful real estate investor? If you want to know what you need to learn, check out the following article. ?It goes over what you need to know.

?

A lot of Real Estate Gurus selling products would have you believe that Real Estate investing is the easiest thing in the world. You just buy their product, and you will be a millionaire overnight. Now, I am not saying that Real Estate investing is as hard as being an Astrophysicist, but there are some things that you will need to know.

The first thing is you need to have a plan. An important part of that plan should be, to always work on getting as much knowledge in the Real Estate Market as you possibly can. At the same time you will need to set financial goals, and set a realistic time frame in which to achieve them. You should also determine whether you are going to buy property to wholesale to other investors, to fix up and resell at retail, or hold on to for the long term and rent. This will help you stay focused.

Should you only invest in the city?

Some rural areas are experiencing tremendous amounts of growth. Some of this growth is coming from families with small children as well as retirees. These people consider the country a safer place to live. However, there are places where the population is in decline. This is where market research will come in to play. You want to make sure that people are still moving to that area when it comes time for you to sell your property.

Usually there aren?t as many properties available in rural areas as there are in the city, especially in the booming areas. So, if you are going to invest in those areas you need to be up on your research, and be ready to take action when you come across a good investment. A good deal won?t be available for long. Keep in mind it could take longer to sell a property in the country than it does in the city. A good idea would be to advertise in the city or cities nearby as well as the rural area the house is in.

Should you buy in a bad economy?

Most seasoned Real Estate Investors would say that a bad economy is the perfect time to buy. The economy is like a seesaw it goes up and it comes down, and like a seesaw it will go back up again. The thing to know about buying in a bad economy is that you can find incredible deals.

There are several reasons for these incredible deals. Sometimes it is a dual income family and one person loses their job, so they are no longer able to afford the mortgage payment. There are also REO?s which stands for ?Real Estate Owned?, in other words they are homes the bank had to foreclose on. Since the banks are in the business of lending money and not being landlords you can usually get these properties at a steep discount. The point is, that during a bad economy there are a lot of good deals available, but always remember to do your research and have a plan.

Precisely What An Addiction Center Generally Offers

Article Directory :: Self-Improvement/Motivation Articles

Individuals who are thinking of getting help from their addiction of illegal substances or alcohol should know where to get the help that they need. They must choose from a variety of addiction centers as to which one can truly help them with their problem. These rehabilitation centers offer their patients the therapy, counseling and the medication that they require in order to help them fight their certain kind of addiction. Here are some of the kinds of recovery centers that cater to a certain addiction or to a certain dependency.

Alcohol Abuse Centers - Are the best place for those who have grown dependent and abusive on alcohol intake. This is one of the more popular addiction centers that never run out of patients simply because there are a lot of alcoholics out there and they require the right rehabilitation and treatment that such establishments can offer. Every rehab center offers a different method of treatment for their patients, some offer more counseling and group therapy while others facilities look more into giving out medications. They have experienced that this is an effective method for their rehabilitation procedure that's why they use it.

Substance Abuse Centers - Individuals who are in need of treatment from being a junkie would eventually seek out a drug rehab center like this. This addiction rehabilitation facility offers a different kind of treatment than that of an alcohol abuse center. Here their methods consists of several months to a year of rehabilitation that composes a combination of counseling, drug therapy, group therapy and self withdrawal where they provide little help during a person's withdrawal stage but provide them with the necessary painkillers that they need. These types of methods have been found to be effective or perhaps under the experimental stage.

Sex Addiction Centers - Being addicted to sex is very disturbing, that's why people who are addicted to sexual intercourse find rehab centers like these that which are discreetly located in certain areas in order to give their patients the privacy they deserve from the humiliation if ever everyone they know find out their kind of addiction. Treating patients that possess an addiction like this is more about counseling and therapy. Psychologists and therapists boost their patients will and lower their urges to relapse. This is a somewhat difficult addiction to get over and would take months to several years before a person may be cured of such addiction.

Paralysed rats walk again in Swiss lab study

LONDON | Thu May 31, 2012 2:38pm EDT

LONDON (Reuters) - Scientists in Switzerland have restored full movement to rats paralysed by spinal cord injuries in a study that might eventually be used in people with similar injuries.

Gregoire Courtine and his team at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne saw rats with severe paralysis walking and running again after a couple of weeks following a combination of electrical and chemical stimulation of the spinal cord together with robotic support.

"Our rats are not only voluntarily initiating a walking gait, but they are soon sprinting, climbing up stairs and avoiding obstacles," said Courtine, whose results from the five-year study will be published in the journal Science on Friday.

Courtine is quick to point out that it remains unclear if a similar technique could help people with spinal cord damage but he adds the technique does hint at new ways of treating paralysis.

Other scientists agree.

"This is ground-breaking research and offers great hope for the future of restoring function to spinal injured patients," said Elizabeth Bradbury, a Medical Research Council senior fellow at King's College London.

But Bradbury notes that very few human spinal cord injuries are the result of a direct cut through the cord, which is what the rats had. Human injuries are most often the result of bruising or compression and it is unclear if the technique could be translated across to this type of injury.

It is also unclear if this kind of electro-chemical "kick-start" could help a spinal cord that has been damaged for a long time, with complications like scar tissue, holes and where a large number of nerve cells and fibres have died or degenerated.

Nevertheless, Courtine's work does demonstrate a way of encouraging and increasing the innate ability of the spinal cord to repair itself, a quality known as neuroplasticity.

Other attempts to repair spinal cords have focused on stem cell therapy, although Geron, the world's leading embryonic stem cell company, last year closed its pioneering work in the field.

The brain and spinal cord can adapt and recover from small injuries but until now that ability was far too limited to overcome severe damage. This new study proves that recovery from severe injury is possible if the dormant spinal column is "woken up".

Norman Saunders, a neuroscientist at the University of Melbourne in Australia, said in an emailed statement reacting to the study that although it remains to be seen whether the technique can be translated to people, "it looks more promising than previously proposed treatments for spinal cord injury".

Bryce Vissel, head of the Neurodegenerative Diseases Research Laboratory at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in Sydney, said the study "suggests we are on the edge of a truly profound advance in modern medicine: the prospect of repairing the spinal cord after injury".

Courtine hopes to start human trials in a year or two at Balgrist University Hospital Spinal Cord Injury Centre in Zurich.

"Our rats have become athletes when just weeks before they were completely paralysed," he said. "I am talking about 100 percent recuperation of voluntary movement."

Dealing With Hardware Computer Repair at Technology Toolkit

Hardware computer repair can be difficult because it can be hard to determine what the problem actually is. For those who are not skilled in computers it is very hard to know what is going on and what needs to be fixed. This means that most of the time you will have to take it in to get fixed or drop it off at a shop. If the problem is not fixed when it happens other parts can break.

Hardware issues are like a chain reaction. If one piece of the computer breaks and does not get fixed then another part will break because that part I broken. Eventually you will notice that there is almost nothing left working on the computer. It is highly important to get it checked if something starts to go wrong.

For those who want to figure it out themselves though, there are ways to try. For one you may get a warning signal on the computer telling you that something is not working properly. Other times you may have a blinking light on your tower that will indicate that there is an issue. Amber light that is blinking generally means that there is a problem on the inside of the tower. The system is getting power but something is not working right. Amber light that is solid on the other hand is normally a problem with the motherboard or a battery issue. The solid amber may also be an issue with the drivers or hard drive.

If you see this going on than you should get some type of help very soon. There are a number of ways that you can get help. You can use the computer to find tutorials or even call someone. If you do not want to use these options than you can go ahead and bring your computer to a specialist in your area to have them fix it for you.

Using a shop online or an actual store is two of the best ways to go about getting help. Online you can take your time and find the right place to get help. They usually will walk you through how to fix it if it is something that you can do over the phone. Those types of things would be a hardware problem. On the other hand if it is a battery or motherboard problem than bringing it to someone can get it fixed soon. You simply drop off your computer and they will fix the issue for you ad you can pick it up some day or within a few days depending on their work load.

Unlike software problems you cannot always fix them over the phone. However, you can call a tech support line or an online stores support line and they may be able to tell you the issue. If they can determine the issue and it is small they can tell you what to buy or replace so that you can have your computer working right again. This type of support can be found fro the manufactures website or just a normal computer tech website.

The price of help is not determined indefinitely. Each option, each company and each business will have a different price. While one repair shop may have low prices from a deal another one can be sky high. It is best to compare all of the prices and ask for parts and labor prices as well.

Getting hardware computer repair is very important if you think something is wrong. The longer that your computer is having problems the worse that it can and will get. Check online for help or look for a repair shop in your area. It will get you back online in no time.

Exactly how Hosted IP PBX Solutions Help Enhance Your ...

Long-distance communications was previously problematic. Making telephone calls to partners, employees, or consumers abroad was steeply-priced, and most phone lines were frequently too unstable for long business calls. Thanks to breakthroughs in telecommunications such as hosted IP PBX solutions, and hardware just like the Polycom IP 331, this isnt much of a problem now.

What is Internet Protocol Private Branch Exchange (IP PBX)?

In telecommunications, IP PBX is a system that transmits audio or video data over a network. A lot of IP PBX methods support many other capabilities based on your business communication needs. These may include things like any of the following:

- Voice over Internet Protocol
- Unlimited extensions
- Unlimited voicemail space
- Caller ID
- Group chat features
- Programmed call reception with custom phone greetings
- Voicemail message to callback or voicemail to email conversions
- Public address or paging solutions
- Mobile phone/device support
- Telephone call recording and archiving
- Security capabilities to counteract unauthorised or dishonest phone calls
- Account or service expense monitoring

The commonest add-on for IP PBX systems is Voice over internet protocol. Voice over internet protocol enables you to call your overseas agencies or associates online.

Having an IP PBX system does not mean the end for Public Switched Telephone Networks (PSTN). Lots of VoIP software and equipment supports the use of PSTN with IP PBX, like the Cisco IAD2431 and the Polycom IP 331.

Why Would You Implement IP PBX?

Phone call transfers, routing, and supervision is much easier with a hosted IP PBX solution. A number of systems are so useful they can take away the need to hire more people to receive calls. Even though IP PBX and Voice over internet protocol systems appear complex, they are easy to understand and utilize. Telephone operations processes for these systems are easy and straightforward.

Hosted VoIP solutions also take a huge load off your back when it comes to phone expenses. Making phone calls by using PSTN or other regular telecom options are generally expensive. VoIP solutions depend upon the world wide web for communications, which costs considerably less than regular calls. A number of services help save more money through providing free internet-based or inter-office telephone calls.

If you are serious about getting an IP PBX system for your office, figure out precisely what your business needs when it comes to communication. Would you like to make long-distance phone calls regularly? Would you like to convert a lot of voicemail to text transcripts? Do you and your workers regularly have team talks on the phone or through internet based chat? Asking questions such as these can help you figure out which specific features to watch out for in an IP PBX program.

Its normally best to locate an IP PBX solution package that comes with unit installation and personalization solutions. Do not set up your own IP PBX program and hardware if you dont know much about installing identical systems. Having experts set up your system can save you from a great deal of pressure and ensure your system will be up and running as quickly as possible.

Rock of Ages Set Visit Report

Rock-of-Ages-movie-image-logo-slice

Tom Cruise is standing in the center of the stage.? He?s shirtless, wearing black jeans with long black hair and painted black nails.? His back has a huge bird like tattoo with longs wings that stretch from shoulder to shoulder.? Along his midsection and sides, he?s got a number of smaller tattoos.? In front of him are 1,500 screaming fans.? As the camera zooms in closer to the stage, the music starts and the crowd erupts in to cheers.? All of a sudden, I realize he?s singing ?Pour Some Sugar on Me? by Def Leppard, and he?s moving around the stage like he?s been there for years.? In only a few moments, I believe Tom Cruise is a rock star, and I?m completely sold on director Adam Shankman?s Rock of Ages.

Let me back up a second.

As I type these words, it?s August 13, 2011 and I spent last night on? Los Angeles? Sunset Strip in 1987.? However, since that?s filming on the real strip and dressing it up in 1987 culture would be beyond expensive and impractical for a huge movie, Warner Bros. recreated the strip on a few streets in Miami.? And based on what I got to see and hear last night, Rock of Ages looks like it?s absolutely captured the 80s in a really fun way.? Hit the jump for so much more.

Before going any further, if you haven?t seen the recent trailer, I?d watch that first:

Video Blog

Shortly after getting back to the hotel last night, I recorded a video blog about the set visit with Amy from Myspace and Jamie from IAmRogue.? We talked about the amazing sets, the interviews, what we thought, how excited Adam Shankman was, and so much more.? All three of us were very impressed when we left the set.? Further down is more.

tom-cruise-Rock-of-Ages-movie-image20 Things to Know About Rock of Ages

-? Rock of Ages takes place in 1987

- The movie isn?t making fun of the era.? They?re playing it straight.

- They filmed in Florida.

- Shankman said he wanted to make a musical that straight men would want to see.

- Shankman said the Rock of Ages budget was the same budget as Hairspray. He had to cut 40 million to get it made.

russell-brand-Rock-of-Ages-movie-image- Alec Baldwin is the reason Rock of Ages got in front of cameras.? Apparently, Baldwin is known as ?Dr. No? because he always says no to everything.? When he said yes to the project, WB told Shankman to make it work, and then Shankman rushed to get it in front of the cameras.

- The Sunset Strip set they built in Miami was amazing.? It was truly like being transported back in time.? When though it looks like it must have taken four months to bring it to life, we learned it only took half that time.

- It was a huge undertaking to get all the legal clearances for the movie. Anything that couldn?t get cleared, the production would build something similar but different enough so they could use it. An example is the Marlboro Man: His billboard used to be on the strip.? However you can?t advertise cigarettes in a movie, so they built a billboard featuring a guy that looks like him, but he?s advertising being a cowboy or something like that.

julianne-hough-Rock-of-Ages-movie-image- There are 23 songs in the movie, a few of them are originals, and some are medleys of two songs mixed together.? Desmond Child, who wrote many of the big songs of the 80?s, wrote or co-wrote the original songs.

- There are three primary locations in the movie: the Sunset Strip, The Bourbon Room and the Venus Club.

- They have over 70 ?picture cars.?, i.e. era-appropriate cars being used in the movie.

- All the singers in the movie are using their own voices.? Even Tom Cruise.

- On the vintage bus they have old movie banner ads.? One side of the bus had The Lost Boys while the other had Little Shop of Horrors.

julianne-hough-image-Rock-of-Ages- They?re shooting using digital cameras, specifically the ARRI Alexa.? Shankman told us that while it was a learning curve for everyone, he?s been blown away by the ability of the camera to film at night with almost no light.

- Everything on the Strip has been moved closer together.? The production made a list of every bar, nightclub, and real world location they wanted to use, and then put them next to one another.? It?s like they took all the commercial buildings and restaurants off the strip, and what was left is the Rock of Ages strip.? It worked; the set was amazing, and it captured the essence of the strip.

- The movie and the stage musical are different.? Shankman decided to focus on the lead character rather than a side character, and instead of a club being sold, the movie is about censorship, which was a real issue back in the 80?s with Tipper Gore and the Parents Music Resource Center.

tom-cruise-Rock-of-Ages-image- Tom Cruise surprised everyone with the way he was able to learn his choreography, and also with how hard he worked.? Shankman said he?s spend hours answering Cruise?s questions, and he was like a sponge always trying to learn.? Also, Cruise never gets tired and never slows down.

- Most of the main cast did 5 weeks of intense rehearsals before shooting began.? They called it ?Rock Star College?. They did vocal, dance and guitar work.

- Shankman isn?t afraid to show visiting journalists unfinished footage in his trailer.? After doing an extremely honest interview, he led us into his trailer and showed us Tom Cruise singing ?Pour Some Sugar on Me? and another sequence with Mary J. Blige inside the Venus Club.? Both sequences looked great, and even the unfinished Cruise sequence caused normally-jaded journalists to applause.? Trust me, you won?t believe how Cruise looks and sounds in Rock of Ages.? After seeing the footage, I wanted to watch the entire movie then and there.

rock-of-ages-julianne-hough-diego-boneta- When we showed up on set last night, I wasn?t sure what we?d see.? Would the production have built a theater, or converted a music venue into what they needed?? Whatever I thought beforehand, the actual set was infinitely better.

- One of my favorite parts of the set was the Tower Records store.? Until a few years ago when it went out of business, the Tower Records on the Strip was as much a part of Los Angeles as palm trees and the Coffee Bean.? Getting to see the store come back to life, with vintage album covers by Kiss, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Cinderella, and many others on the outside of the building, was a lot of fun.? Also, while the store wasn?t real on the inside, the front door was open and they had a basic setup that would look real for the camera.? It was great to see albums and other vintage posters when the doors were open between takes.

- Of course the Tower Records wasn?t the only store on the set, and the production also built The Comedy Store, Guitar Center, The Body Shop, Frederick?s of Hollywood, Trashy Lingerie, Carney?s, the Rainbow Room, Filthy McNasty?s, and so many other places.? In addition, with the movie taking place in ?87, they made sure to include another famous Angeleno: Angelyne (read about her here).? The production actually built a massive billboard of the busty blond, and she overlooks the strip like she did back in the ?80?s.? It?s the little touches like this that demonstrated how much love and care went into bringing the past to life.

rock-of-ages-alec-baldwin-russell-brand-julianne-hough- I think anyone who ever walked the Strip in the 80?s is going to love Rock of Ages and experience some serious nostalgia.

- I really can?t say enough about the footage I saw of Tom Cruise as Stacee Jaxx.? Trust me, it?s going to blow you away.

- In director Adam Shankman?s Rock of Ages, Cruise plays the biggest rock star on the planet and he?s about to start playing his farewell show with his band Arsenal before he does a solo project.

Final Thoughts

As you saw in the video blog, I?ve got a lot of enthusiasm for Rock of Ages.? While I knew very little about the movie before the set visit, everything I saw and learned tells me this musical is going to be a big hit for Warner Bros. next year.? It?s got an amazing cast and a soundtrack that I can?t wait to hear.? I never thought I?d have written that last sentence before visiting the set.? Wait until you see Cruise sing ?Pour Some Sugar on Me?.? You?ll be impressed.

For more on Rock of Ages, here?s my on set interviews with the cast and over twenty behind-the-scenes pictures I took while walking around set:

'Extinct' bumblebee returns to UK

Nikki Gammans explains how the short-haired bumblebee has been brought back to the UK

A species of bee not seen in the UK for a quarter of a century is being reintroduced to the countryside.

The short-haired bumblebee was once widespread across the south of England but it vanished in 1988.

However, after a healthy stock of the bees was found in Sweden, conservationists were able to collect some to seed a new UK colony.

About 50 queen bumblebees are being released at the RSPB's Dungeness reserve in Kent.

Nikki Gammans, from the Short-haired Bumblebee Project, said: "Normally, extinction means a species is gone forever.

"But it is magnificent that we can bring back this bee species and give it a second chance here in the UK."

Plan bee

The loss of the short-haired bumblebee (Bombus subterraneus) was caused by the dramatic decline of wildflower meadows that occurred after World War II as agriculture intensified to feed the growing population.

It is estimated that 97% of Britain's flower-rich grasslands, which the bees needed to forage and thrive, has vanished over the past 70 years.

But in southern Sweden, the species is doing much better as fewer people live there and farming practices are more bee-friendly.

Dr Gammans said: "The bee population in Sweden is expanding and growing whereas for everywhere else in Europe it has been contracting - it is either rare, threatened, or extinct like in the UK.

"So Sweden was really the only place we could go to collect the bees."

A team of conservationists, with the permission of the Swedish authorities, captured nearly 100 spring queens to bring back to the UK.

Before the release, the bees were put in quarantine for two weeks at Royal Holloway, University of London.

Dr Mark Brown, from the university's school of biological sciences, said: "We've screened for four different parasite species, which can all damage bees in different ways.

"The key reason why we are looking for them is we don't want to introduce populations of these parasites from Sweden into the UK. Those with the parasites haven't been released."

There will be a really good chance that it will establish, it will become self sustainable and spread?

End Quote Nikki Gammans Short-haired Bumblebee Project

The preparations for the bees' arrival in Kent have also been extensive.

At the RSPB's reserve in Dungeness, the site for the bees' release, conservationists have spent the last three years preparing the land.

Martin Randall, the site manager at the reserve, said: "The most important thing we've had to do to get this ready for the bees is to encourage wild flowers, like clovers and vetches.

"So the first thing we did was to collect locally grown clover seed and spread it across the grasslands, and then we followed it up by grazing it sensitively with cattle and sheep."

The work is already helping other endangered bee species in the local area: the shrill carder bee, which was absent from Dungeness for 25 years, was recently found there.

Mr Randall said: "When you come here on a still day, this is just buzzing with bees, and we're hoping that the short-haired bumblebee will join that group."

Local farmers have also been involved in the project, which has been funded by Natural England, the RSPB, Hymettus and the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.

By leaving margins unfarmed at the edges of their fields, flower-rich, green "corridors" are created, which will help the bees to spread out across the area.

Plight of the bumblebee

This is the second attempt to release the short-haired bumblebee in the UK.

In 2009, Dr Gammans collected bees from New Zealand, which had been introduced there from the UK in 1895 to pollinate red clover.

But DNA tests found the colony lacked genetic diversity and many of the queens did not survive their hibernation once in the UK.

But the ecologist is much more optimistic about the success of the Swedish bees.

Dr Gammans said: "We think there will be a really good chance that it will establish, it will become self sustainable and spread."

She said she expected between 20-30% of the reintroduced queen bees would survive after their release and create nests.

"This is about the usual survival rate for queens. After that, we want to add further reintroductions to increase the genetic diversity and increase their chances," she explained.

The team hopes the return of this species could give a boost to bee conservation.

Fuzzy buzzers

  • Bumblebees are vital pollinators of wild flowers and crops. They appear to be particularly effective at pollinating tomato plants; the frequency of their buzz releases a cloud of pollen from the flowers, covering the bees' fuzzy bodies and the reproductive parts of other flowers. Some tomato-growers use pollination vibrators or even electric toothbrushes to mimic this effect.
  • These large, robust members of the bee family visit flowers that are up to 2km from their hive. UK scientists recently found that the bees "optimise their journeys" - taking the shortest possible distance from one flower to another before returning to the hive.

Over the past few decades, bumblebees have been in serious decline. As well as the loss of the short-haired bumblebee, another bee species - the Cullem's bumblebee (Bombus cullumanus) - has also been declared extinct in the UK and others species are at risk of vanishing from the UK.

Conservationists warn that the loss of the bees and other insect pollinators would be disastrous.

With about 80% of Britain's plants reliant on insects for pollination, it has been estimated that these creatures contribute more than ?400m a year to the UK economy.

Dr Pete Brotherton, head of biodiversity at Natural England, said: "We depend upon nature in so many ways, yet across England many species and habitats are in decline.

"These losses can be stopped - today is a fantastic example of what conservation organisations, the government and farmers can achieve when we work together.

"Exciting projects like this one are vital in helping to turn the tide on biodiversity loss."

Home values and rents continue to climb in April | Real Estate ...

By News Desk, on May 27th, 2012

Rents Rise in Three-Quarters of Markets, According to April Zillow Real Estate Market Reports

National home values rose for the second month in a row, climbing 0.7 percent from March to a Zillow Home Value Index of $147,300. This is the largest monthly increase in home values since January 2006, when they rose 0.8 percent, according to the April Zillow? Real Estate Market Reports.

Rents also rose from March to April, increasing 1.6 percent, according to the Zillow Rent Index. Rents rose in 78 percent of the 178 markets covered by Zillow.

Home values rose significantly in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale and Phoenix metro areas, rising 1.6 and 1.9 percent, respectively. However, values continued to fall in hard-hit markets such as Atlanta, where home values declined 0.7 percent.

?The housing market continues to show positive signs, with home values increasing significantly in April,? said Zillow Chief Economist Dr. Stan Humphries. ?The recovery is moving in the right direction, but we caution that negative equity will cast a long shadow over the housing market. With almost one-third of homeowners with mortgages underwater and unable to sell their homes, inventory is having a hard time keeping up with increasing demand in many areas. We?ll continue to watch this signal as increasing home values turn from a blip into a trend.?

Foreclosures continued to decline in April, with 6.8 out of every 10,000 homes in the country being foreclosed. That was down from 8 out of every 10,000 in March.

Sasol launches new coal mining shaft in South Africa

EBR Staff Writer
Published 24 May 2012

Sasol has inaugurated its ZAR3.5bn ($423m) Thubelisha Shaft at the Twistdraai Colliery in Mpumalanga, South Africa.

The new shaft will be located in the north-east of the Secunda complex, and replace the current Twistdraai Colliery shaft system that has reached its economic limit.

Sasol Mining managing director Hermann Wenhold said the company has entered a period of intense capital replacement and will replace 60% of its operating capacity in Secunda in the next eight years.

"This capital replacement comes at a total cost of R14 billion," added Hermann.

"The Thubelisha shaft is the first milestone in this large scale project."

The shaft, will have a total conveyor belt length of 20km, and see surface buildings, coal conveyance infrastructure, workshops and a full shaft system.

Thubelisha will be destined to deliver more than 8 million tons per annum (mtpa) over a lifespan of 25 years, from a maximum of 12 coal production sections.

The company expects the new shaft will extend the life of the Twistdraai Colliery beyond 2039, and supply coal to Sasol Synfuels for its export and domestic business.

How To Do Paid Online Surveys | The Article Resource Guide

?

Paid online surveys are offered by many marketing companies who want to get the opinions of consumers about products and services that they need to sell. Many individuals take advantage of these paid surveys as a way to generate extra income and have an influence on some of the products that come to the market. For those who are interested in completing these paid service, the process is pretty simple, but it does require a little bit of effort on the part of the participant.

Find Online Survey Companies

The first part of the process is to find companies that offer online surveys for consumers to take. By doing a simple search, a consumer can usually find many different market research firms that offer survey opportunities for individuals. Participants can visit the websites of these companies and sign up to be included in future survey opportunities.

Signing Up for Surveys

Once market research companies have been located, the next part of the process is to sign up for access to surveys. Typically, this is done by creating an account with a site and then providing some basic personal information. The participant, may need to provide his name, address and phone number. The application may also ask for some basic demographic information like age, sex, income level and education level.

Respond to Invitations

When a survey opportunity comes up, the market research company will email the people who fit certain criteria. For example, the survey company may send out an invitation to women between the ages of 28 and 36 who are married and have kids. When a market research company sends out an invitation, the recipient typically has a limited amount of time to respond to the invitation in order to be considered for the survey opportunity. The participant will need to open the email and click on a link within it to be included.

Screening Questions

Once the participant has clicked on the link in the email, he will typically be taken to a series of screening questions for the survey. These screening questions are asked to get more information about the applicant and see if he qualifies to participate. The screening questions typically go a little bit more in depth on the demographic questions to determine if the applicant meets the needs of the company who is doing market research on a product.

Completing the Survey

Those who are asked to participate in the survey will then be given the opportunity to take it right away. Typically, the survey will show the participant some information about a product and then ask a series of questions about it. In some cases, the marketing company may show the participants a video online of the product. Sometimes, the marketing company will actually send a product to the consumer to see what he thinks about it.

After the product has been reviewed, the participant can then answer questions or give his opinion about the product. After the completion of the survey, the participant will usually receive a confirmation email or code so that he can prove he completed the survey. Within a certain amount time, a reward payment will be credited to the account of the participant. Survey participants can usually engage in as many paid surveys as they qualify for without any problems.

In Egypt's elections, politics is a new family affair

Ayman Mohyeldin

My cousin Mai Mohyeldin, voting for the first time in her life. Her niece Fareeda, looks on. Future generations of Egyptians will grow up knowing their civic responsibilities and rights in the wake of the revolution.

By Ayman Mohyeldin, NBC News

CAIRO, Egypt -- I witnessed a transformation on my return to my childhood home in Cairo on Wednesday.

Three generations of my family piled into a Hyundai hatchback and headed off to the polling booth.

After boycotting politics for much of their lives, my aunt Faten, 64, and my cousins, Mai, 27, and Reham, 33, along with Reham?s two daughters, Habeeba, 6, and Fareeda, 1, braved the heat and stood in line to vote.

Like millions of other Egyptians, they were claiming a stake in their country. Their decisions were in the works for weeks, but it only took a few minutes to cast their ballots in what could be the most important choice any of them has made in shaping their country's future.

'We want to live ... like human beings': Egyptians vote?

?It was important to vote because these were the first elections after the revolution. The next president will have so much to do to put this country on a better path, which is what everybody wants,? Mai says.

As for my aunt Faten, she never imagined that she would vote in a genuine election in Egypt during her lifetime.

Standing in front of the five-story building where I once lived with my parents and?brother, and where my extended family still lives, I saw myself 30 years earlier as a little boy looking out the back window of a car loaded with luggage heading to the airport.?

My parents had seen Egypt?s glory days in the 1960s and 1970s fade away after President Hosni Mubarak took power in 1981. ?A brighter future full of opportunity awaited us in the U.S., my parents believed. So, they like so many others emigrated.

There were good reasons to leave Egypt.

My aunt, uncles and cousins sat idly year after year as Egyptian leaders were confirmed by popular referenda. Corruption flourished, and people?s votes and voices mattered less and less.

?Our voices never mattered, it was the voice of the president that would be dictated on to the people, not the voice of the people that would be dictated to the leader,? my aunt tells me.

Ayman Mohyeldin

A volunteer helps women identify their names on registration records at a polling station in Cairo.

?I thought my daughters would never genuinely vote in their lifetime either,? she says.?

My cousins Reham and Mai are both around my age. They grew up in an Egypt gripped by the sense of bleakness and lack of opportunity that had driven my parents to emigrate.

Their vote on Wednesday was meant to reverse those stagnant decades. More precisely, their vote was simply about believing they could reverse those times.?

These presidential elections ? Egypt?s first free and fair vote ? were a step along a painstaking process that began nearly 16 months ago with a public uprising that swept Mubarak from power.?

For many who live in active democracies, the idea of casting a ballot can be taken for granted: Voting, whether it's for local councils or presidents, is a routine, often fleeting moment squeezed into the day before rushing off to work or perhaps during a lunch break.

But this historic moment is not lost on people in budding democracies, like Egypt?s: My family voted knowing that others had died to make it possible.

Aside from the politics of the vote ? who they would vote for, why they chose their candidate, what did they want their candidate to achieve on their behalf ? there was an underlying belief among my aunt and cousins that this time they had a role, this time their voice mattered, this time the candidates have to work to earn their trust.

?Who could believe that these people would stand up on TV and try to convince us that he is one of us, worthy of our confidence and that he would serve the people,? my aunt said.

Ayman Mohyeldin

My aunt Faten Mohyeldin voting for the time in her life.

My family lived one of the paradoxes of Egypt?s revolution. On Jan. 25, 2011, when the movement began, they sat in the comfort of their home, anxiously watching what was unfolding just a few miles away.

They didn?t participate in the revolution and never went to Tahrir Square, the epicenter of the protests. The weight of apathy from years of being marginalized as citizens was too much to overcome.

Their pessimism was deeply entrenched, and they didn?t believe change was possible.

Instead, those who did believe took to the streets every day for 18 days until they dislodged Mubarak.

Analysis: How Egypt's election may transform the Middle East

The revolutionaries achieved change that few in my extended family thought possible. Their sense of optimism not only galvanized a country but also resonated around the world.

Nearly 16 months later, the roles are somewhat reversed. Many in the youth movements and activists who brought about the change boycotted the presidential elections. And many who didn?t support the revolution early on are participating in the electoral process to bring about change.

Even notable political figures like Mohamed Mustafa ElBaradei ? a famed diplomat who ran the International Atomic Energy Agency during the run-up to the U.S. invasion of Iraq ? withdrew from the race in frustration because the transitional process from Mubarak to a democracy was being led by the military council.

Many revolutionaries shared his frustration that Egypt?s transition to democracy had been botched. Almost all agree the process could have been better.

Still, so many did vote.?

My aunt and Reham voted for someone very few would consider resembles change: Ahmed Shafiq, a former commander in the Air Force who briefly became the prime minister in the final days of Mubarak?s presidency.

NBC's Richard Engel talks about the importance of Egypt's first Democratic presidential elections since the fall of Hosni Mubarak.

Shafiq, they argue, represents stability and security, the very things that Egypt needs now after 16 months of chaos and uncertainty. Everything else for them is secondary. Security is the gateway to everything else and the only person who can deliver it is Shafiq, they say.

And while they understand why people criticize him for being a remnant of the old regime, they say it?s admirable that he would choose to run in the face of such adversity.

?It shows that he has character,? Reham says. ?

And if he steps out of line, Tahrir is always an option, she adds.

They argue that the other leading candidates, mainly the Islamist Mohammed Morsi, is duplicitous. His political party, the Muslim Brotherhood?s offshoot, the Freedom and Justice Party, has made every possible mistake they can so far, they believe.

?They have lied to the people about their political ambitions,? Reham says.

And for people new to the untrustworthy nature of elected officials and their constituents, that goes a long way in a place like Egypt that is experiencing the cunning of politics and politicians for the first time.

Voters lined up in Cairo to choose from five leading candidates: a socialist, two Islamists, and two with ties to former President Hosni Mubarak. NBC's Richard Engel reports.

?All you have to do is watch them fighting in parliament and you will see that they are not up to the responsibility of being in power,? my aunt adds.

As educated women who have worked, Mai and Reham don?t trust any Islamist politicians. They have already lied about many issues, so why would they not lie about their intentions to curb the rights of women or society at large? they ask.

Many Egyptians feel this way.? A poll conducted by Gallup shows Egyptians have quickly grown weary of Islamist politicians, who have seen their popularity wane from just a few short months ago.?

The yearning for security and stability among the older women in my family gives away to the idealism of youth.

NYT: Crime overtakes revolution as Egypt votes

My youngest cousin, Mai, voted for a socialist candidate, Hamdeen Sabahy.?While she does like Sabahy?s egalitarian campaign program, she concedes he is a tough sell for most Egyptians and a longshot for president. But she was disheartened by the choice of candidates that emerged in the wake of the revolution and so thinks that Sabahy was the best of the options, not because who he was per se, but rather who the others were.?

The most touching moment for me was watching 6-year-old Habeeba try to dip her finger in the voting ink as an election official pulled the bottle away.

After my aunt voted, with the ink still fresh on her finger, Habeeba reached up and pushed her finger up against her grandmother?s to rub some of the liquid onto herself.

Habeeba has seen her family genuinely vote three times in the past year.? She has witnessed the democratic process in action, no matter how flawed, more than any other woman in my family had in their entire lifetimes previously.

She is now growing up in a house where opinions differ and debates rage, but most importantly, will have a sense of belief that she and her voice will matter.

My aunt Faten, who spent her life believing her daughters would never cast a ballot that really mattered, is convinced her granddaughters will one day vote and it will make a difference.

Who knows, by the time Habeeba grows up it may become as routine as voting during a lunch break.

Ayman Mohyeldin

Two generations of my family voted for the first time. A future voter, Habeeba, 6, is eager to show she participated, too.
